Getting started

Install the app, connect Claude Code and see your first prototype.

The Sneak Peek window: projects and prototypes in the sidebar, and four takes on a landing page, each on phone, tablet and desktop

What Sneak Peek is

Sneak Peek is a Mac app where Claude Code prototypes UI for your projects. Ask Claude for a few takes on a screen, and each one appears in the app as Claude writes it, rendered with your project’s real components, tokens and styles, on phone, tablet and desktop side by side.

Prototypes live in the app’s own folder, not in your repo. Nothing in your project changes until you ask Claude to build the take you picked into it.

What you need

Free. For React projects on Next.js or Vite. macOS 14 or later on Apple silicon, with Claude Code.

Google Chrome is optional. Claude uses it to take screenshots of your prototypes when Sneak Peek is closed.

Install

  1. Download Sneak Peek from the download link and open the disk image.
  2. Drag Sneak Peek to Applications, and open it from there.
  3. Sign in with GitHub or Google.

On first launch, the app connects itself to Claude Code: it adds its skill to Claude Code and registers its tools, so Claude knows how to write prototypes and show them to you. It carries its own Node, so there is nothing else to install.

The welcome screen

Until you have a project, the app shows what is left to set up. The first time everything is ready, a short tutorial points at each step, from choosing your project to its first prototype. Help > Show Tutorial brings it back.

Get Claude Code
Claude Code is not installed yet. Sneak Peek works through it, so install it first.
Connect to Claude Code
Claude Code is there, but the playground skill is not. One click adds it.
Choose a Project…
Everything is ready. Pick a React project on Next.js or Vite, and Claude Code opens in it, in Terminal, to add it and ask what to prototype.

Your first prototype

Open Claude Code in any React project on Next.js or Vite, and ask in your own words:

› Prototype a few takes on the pricing card in the playground.

The first time, Claude adds the project to the playground. Then it writes the takes, and Sneak Peek shows each one as a row of frames. Click the one you like, tell Claude what to change, and keep the winner.

Where things are kept

Projects, prototypes and snapshots live in ~/Library/Application Support/Sneak Peek. Versions from before the rename kept them in a folder named Dev Playground. Updating moves them, and leaves a link under the old name so nothing that knew it loses track.
